Use Login.gov to create one secure account for government websites, including Social Security.
Create Login.gov Account βAfter creating Login.gov or ID.me, come back here to sign into Social Security.
Sign In to SSA βOpen the my Social Security login page and choose either Login.gov or ID.me.
Do not use an old work email if you may lose access after retirement.
Open the email from Login.gov or ID.me and confirm your email address.
You may be asked to use a text message, phone call, authentication app, or another security method.
You may need your driverβs license, state ID, passport, Social Security number, or other personal information.
After your account is verified, go back to Social Security and continue your Medicare enrollment.
This is the basic flow for people who worked past 65 and delayed Medicare Part B because they had employer group health coverage.
Call Medicare On Main and confirm your target Medicare Part B start date. Do not guess on the date.
Set up Login.gov or ID.me before you need to submit anything. This avoids last-minute login problems.
Your employer or HR department fills out the CMS-L564 form to verify your group health coverage.
This is the Part B enrollment form. Your requested Part B start date should match your transition plan.
Submit through Social Security using the instructions they provide online, by mail, fax, or local office process.
Do not enroll in a Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, or Part D plan until the timing is clear.
