Some Plan G options add extras like dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits. That sounds good, but there’s one question I’d ask before choosing one.
Hi, I’m Brian Penner with Medicare On Main. Innovative Plan G, sometimes called enhanced Plan G, is still Medicare Supplement Plan G. The medical benefits are standardized, which means the core medical coverage is the same from one company to another.
The difference is that some companies add extra benefits on top. Those extras may include dental, vision, hearing, over-the-counter benefits, fitness benefits, or similar perks.
And honestly, those extras can be nice. But I would not choose a Medicare Supplement based only on the freebies.
Before choosing an innovative Plan G, ask this:
“What has this company’s rate-increase history looked like in my state?”
That question matters more than the brochure. A plan that looks good today can become expensive fast if the company takes aggressive rate increases year after year.
Not automatically. Innovative Plan G may be better if the premium is fair, the carrier has a reasonable rate history, and the added benefits are actually useful to you.
But if the extras are being used to distract from a higher premium or poor rate history, I’d be careful.
A Medicare Supplement is usually a long-term decision. The starting price matters, but the rate trend matters too.
Some bundled dental, vision, and hearing benefits are helpful. Some are pretty limited.
They may have annual caps, provider networks, waiting periods, or reimbursement rules. So if dental coverage is the main reason you’re interested, it may be worth comparing the built-in benefit against a standalone dental, vision, and hearing plan.
Plan G is one of the strongest Medicare Supplement options for people newly eligible for Medicare today. But Plan N can sometimes be a better value if you are comfortable with some copays and the possibility of excess charges in certain states.
Before choosing an enhanced Plan G, compare it against regular Plan G and Plan N so you can see the full picture.
The medical coverage is the same because Plan G is standardized. Innovative or enhanced Plan G versions may add extras like dental, vision, hearing, or fitness benefits.
Not automatically. Rate increases vary by company, state, age, claims experience, and market conditions.
It depends on the company. Some extras may be built into the policy, while others may be optional riders.
Sometimes. But they may have annual limits, networks, waiting periods, or reimbursement rules, so they need to be compared carefully.
Give me a call and I’ll help you compare the premium, extras, and long-term value.
