Short answer: Medicare Advantage — also called Medicare Part C — bundles your Part A, Part B, and usually Part D drug coverage into one private plan, often with extra dental, vision, and hearing. For 2026 there are 280 Medicare Advantage (MA-PD) plan options priced across Utah's counties, and 178 of them (about 64%) carry a $0 monthly plan premium (you still pay your Part B premium). The catch isn't price — it's fit: networks, drug formularies, and out-of-pocket maximums vary widely by county. We compare them with you, free.

First, the terminology
Medicare Part C and Medicare Advantage are the same thing
If you've searched "Medicare Part C plans in Utah" and "Utah Medicare Advantage plans" and wondered whether they're different — they're not. Part C is the section of Medicare law that lets private insurers offer bundled plans, and the marketing name for those plans is Medicare Advantage. So a "Part C plan" and a "Medicare Advantage plan" are exactly the same product.
A Utah Part C plan replaces the way Original Medicare pays your bills: instead of Medicare paying providers directly, it pays a private carrier — like UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Select Health, or Regence — to administer your Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) benefits, almost always with Part D drugs folded in (that combination is an MA-PD plan).
Choice varies by county
How many Utah Part C plans you can pick from
Plan choice depends heavily on where you live. Rural southeast Utah has fewer options than the Wasatch Front — but $0-premium, 4-star plans reach almost everywhere.
| County (area) | MA-PD plans | $0-premium | Top Star | Example carriers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salt Lake Salt Lake City, Sandy, West Jordan | 24 | 17 | 4.5★ | UHC, Humana, Aetna, Select Health, Regence, Devoted, Cigna |
| Grand Moab | 8 | 5 | 4.5★ | UnitedHealthcare, Humana |
| San Juan Monticello, Blanding | 4 | 2 | 4.5★ | UnitedHealthcare, Humana |

Part C isn't automatically the answer
Medicare Advantage vs. Original Medicare + Medigap in Utah
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
- Low or $0 monthly plan premium
- Drug coverage + extras (dental, vision, hearing) usually bundled in
- A yearly out-of-pocket maximum caps your risk
- Uses provider networks — care centers on your plan's doctors and hospitals
- Best when you want low up-front cost and all-in-one simplicity
Original Medicare + Medigap
- Higher monthly premium (Medigap + a stand-alone Part D plan)
- See any provider in the U.S. that takes Medicare — no networks
- Very predictable costs; little or no surprise billing
- Great for frequent travelers or anyone wanting maximum provider freedom
- Best when you value flexibility over the lowest premium

What "$0 premium" really means
A $0-premium plan isn't free healthcare
You still pay your monthly Medicare Part B premium, and you'll have copays and coinsurance when you use care. The number that actually protects you is the plan's in-network maximum out-of-pocket (MOOP) — the most you'd pay in a bad year. In Utah for 2026, MOOP amounts on MA-PD plans range roughly from the mid-$3,000s to over $9,000, so two "$0 premium" plans can carry very different real-world risk. Drug coverage matters too: 2026 caps what any enrollee pays out of pocket for covered Part D drugs at $2,100 for the year — but each plan's formulary and deductible still differ. We compare premium, MOOP, drug formulary, and your specific doctors side by side before you decide.

Utah Medicare Advantage FAQ
Is Medicare Part C the same as Medicare Advantage in Utah?
Yes. "Medicare Part C" and "Medicare Advantage" are two names for the identical product — a private, bundled alternative to Original Medicare. There is no difference between a Utah Part C plan and a Utah Medicare Advantage plan; shoppers just search both ways.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are available in Utah for 2026?
Across Utah's counties there are 280 Medicare Advantage (MA-PD) plan offerings for 2026, and about 64% of them (178) carry a $0 monthly plan premium. The number available to you depends on your county — Salt Lake County has around two dozen, while rural San Juan County has four. Source: CMS CY2026 Landscape data.
Which insurance companies offer Part C plans in Utah?
Carriers competing in Utah for 2026 include UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna, Cigna (HealthSpring), Devoted Health, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, and Select Health (Intermountain). Which ones serve you depends on your county — we show you the carriers available in your ZIP.
Do Utah Medicare Advantage plans cover prescription drugs?
Most do. A plan that bundles drug coverage is called an MA-PD plan and is the most common type in Utah. For 2026, the most any enrollee pays out of pocket for covered Part D drugs is capped at $2,100 for the year — but each plan's formulary and deductible differ, so we check your specific prescriptions against the plan before you enroll.
Can I get help choosing a Utah Part C plan if I don't live near Moab or Monticello?
Absolutely. Brian Penner is licensed across Utah and helps clients statewide — including the Wasatch Front (Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden) and southern Utah (St. George) — by phone and video. There's never a charge, and your plan premium is identical whether you enroll with us or on your own.
What does it cost to work with Medicare On Main?
Nothing. Independent Medicare advisors are paid by the insurance carriers, not by you, so guidance is free and your premium doesn't change. You get an unbiased comparison across carriers instead of a single company's pitch.
