Plans & Coverage
Dental & Vision Insurance
Original Medicare doesn't cover routine dental cleanings, fillings, dentures, eye exams, or glasses — a surprise for many people new to Medicare. Many Medicare Advantage plans include dental and vision benefits, and standalone dental/vision policies can fill the gaps for bigger work. We compare what's bundled into a plan vs. what's worth adding on the side.
What Medicare does and doesn't cover
Original Medicare covers dental or vision care only in narrow medical situations (for example, an eye exam tied to a medical condition, or oral surgery connected to a covered procedure). Routine cleanings, dentures, implants, exams, and eyeglasses are on you unless a plan or standalone policy covers them.
Your options
Some Medicare Advantage plans include generous dental and vision allowances; others are thin or cap major work quickly. A standalone dental plan can offer broader coverage for crowns, dentures, and implants. We weigh the plan's built-in benefit against a standalone policy based on the dental work you actually expect.
How we help
We check each Advantage plan's dental/vision allowance, the network of participating dentists and eye doctors near you, and the annual maximum, then compare that against a standalone policy so you're not paying for coverage you won't use — or missing coverage you need.

Questions, answered
Does Medicare cover dentures or implants?
Original Medicare generally doesn't. Some Advantage plans and standalone dental policies help, but coverage and annual limits vary widely, so we compare them carefully against the work you expect.
Is a plan's dental benefit enough, or do I need a standalone policy?
It depends on your needs. Plan allowances are fine for cleanings and minor work but often cap quickly on major work. For crowns, dentures, or implants, a standalone policy may pay more. We compare both for you.
Does Medicare cover eye exams and glasses?
Not routinely. Many Advantage plans include an annual eye exam and an eyewear allowance; standalone vision plans are also available. We help you find the best fit.
