What eligibility depends on
Age 65 is the main trigger, but you may qualify earlier through 24 months of Social Security Disability, ALS, or End-Stage Renal Disease. Premium-free Part A depends on 40 quarters of Medicare-taxed work by you or a spouse. The checker accounts for the common cases.

Usually the first day of the month you turn 65. If your birthday is on the 1st, it starts the month before. Your enrollment window spans 7 months around that date.
Can I be eligible before 65?
Yes — after 24 months of Social Security Disability benefits, or immediately with ALS or End-Stage Renal Disease. The start rules differ, so ask us if this applies to you.
