Premium Estimator

Your Medicare premiums depend on the standard Part B amount, plus any income-related surcharge (IRMAA) if your income is above certain thresholds, plus any plan premium you choose. Use the estimator below with your income range and we'll help you gauge your monthly cost so there are no surprises. Confirm current-year figures on Medicare.gov.

What drives your premium

Three things: the standard Part B premium (set each year), your IRMAA bracket (based on the modified adjusted gross income on your tax return from two years ago), and the premium of any Part D or Advantage plan you choose. The estimator combines them into a realistic monthly figure.

IRMAA and how to appeal it

IRMAA is tiered, so being just over a threshold can raise your premium. If your income dropped because of a life-changing event — retirement, the loss of a spouse, or reduced work — you can appeal IRMAA with Social Security. We show clients exactly how to file that appeal.

Questions, answered

Why is my Part B premium higher than the standard amount?

Likely IRMAA — an income-related surcharge based on your modified adjusted gross income from two years ago. We can estimate your bracket and help you appeal if your income has since dropped.

Can I lower my Medicare premium?

Sometimes — by appealing IRMAA after an income drop, or through Extra Help or a Medicare Savings Program if your income qualifies. We check all of these for you.

Is the estimate exact?

It's a close estimate; your official premium comes from Social Security and Medicare. We confirm the current-year figures with you before you enroll.

Official Medicare sources

We point you to the federal sources so you can verify everything. For current-year figures and to compare the plans available in your area:

  • Medicare.gov — the official U.S. government site for Medicare costs, coverage, and rules.
  • Medicare Plan Compare — the official tool to compare Medicare Advantage and Part D plans by ZIP.
  • Social Security (ssa.gov) — enroll in Medicare Parts A & B and check your eligibility.
  • CMS.gov — Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which runs the program.

Education and estimates only — confirm current figures on Medicare.gov before enrolling. We do not offer every plan available in your area.
