Medicare Supplement Quote

Same Plan G. Different price.

Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by federal law. A Plan G is a Plan G no matter which company sells it — identical benefits, identical rules. The only things that change are the premium and the company behind it.

So if your premium went up, the question isn't whether to give up coverage. It's whether you're paying more than you need to for the coverage you already have.

Why shopping works here

The letter defines the coverage. The company sets the price.

What's identical everywhere

  • The benefits attached to each plan letter
  • Your doctor choice — any provider who accepts Medicare, nationwide
  • No networks and no referrals
  • Guaranteed renewable as long as you pay the premium

What actually differs

  • The monthly premium — often by a meaningful margin
  • How steeply that carrier has raised rates in past years
  • Household and other premium discounts
  • Service and how claims get handled

We shop A-rated carriers in Utah and Colorado and bring back the most competitive rate for the plan you already have — or the one that fits you better.

The part comparison sites leave out

The lowest number today isn't always the cheapest over ten years

A carrier moving into a market will often price aggressively to build a block of members, then raise rates once that block matures and ages. Chase the lowest rate every year and you can end up re-applying repeatedly — and each application means answering health questions again, at an age where the answers get harder.

We look at a carrier's rate-increase history next to its current premium. Sometimes the honest recommendation is that you're already in a good spot and should stay put. We'd rather tell you that than move you twice.

Straight answer first

Whether you can switch depends on your health

Outside a guaranteed-acceptance window, a new carrier will ask health questions and can decline the application. That means switching is a real option for people in reasonably good health, and may not be available to everyone. We'll tell you which side of that line you're on before you fill out a full application — not after it comes back declined.

Questions, answered

Before you shop

Is Plan G from one company really the same as Plan G from another?

Yes. Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by federal law — a Plan G sold in Utah or Colorado must cover exactly the same benefits no matter whose name is on it. The letter defines the coverage. What differs between carriers is the premium, the size of past rate increases, and how they handle a claim. That's the whole reason shopping is worth doing: you are not trading away coverage to pay less.

My premium went up again. Why does that keep happening?

Most Medigap policies are attained-age rated, so the premium climbs as you get older on top of any across-the-board increase the carrier files. Rising medical costs drive the rest. A block of policies that has been closed to new members tends to increase faster over time, because the pool ages without younger, healthier members joining it. None of that means you have to accept it — but it does mean the increase is normal rather than a mistake to dispute.

Is the cheapest quote the best one?

Not always, and this is the part most comparison sites skip. A carrier entering a market often prices low to attract members, then raises rates once the block matures. A slightly higher premium from a company with a steady rate history can cost less over ten years than the lowest number you can find today. We look at the increase history alongside the current rate, because moving you again in three years helps nobody.

Can I switch to another carrier whenever I want?

You can apply at any time, but outside a guaranteed-acceptance period a new carrier will ask health questions and can decline you. So the honest answer is that switching works well for people in reasonably good health and may not be an option for everyone. We tell you which it is before you fill in a full application, not after.

What does this cost me?

Nothing. Comparing Medicare Supplement options with a licensed agent is free to you — carriers pay the commission, and it's built into the same rates whether you use an agent or apply on your own. There is no version of this where shopping costs you money.
