Medicare Advantage Plans in St. George, Utah for 2027
CMS's 2027 landscape file is public, and Washington County's Medicare Advantage shelf is shorter and more expensive to use than it was: 9 plans with drug coverage instead of 12, 5 at $0 instead of 7, and an out-of-pocket cap that went up on eight of the nine plans that stayed. Here is every 2027 plan in St. George with its premium, cap and drug deductible next to its own 2026 numbers, the three plans that are gone, what happened in Cedar City and Kanab, and what to do about it before December 7.
The bottom line
- 9 plans, 4 carriers. Aetna Medicare, Humana, Select Health and UnitedHealthcare stay. Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, which had two Washington County plans in 2026, has none for 2027.
- 5 of 9 have a $0 premium. One $0 plan is gone, and one AARP PPO went from $0 to $10. The highest premium rose from $87 to $110.
- Out-of-pocket caps run $5,750 to $7,150. Up from $5,000 to $6,750. Eight of the nine continuing plans raised their cap; the biggest jump is $1,500 on the AARP HMO-POS.
- Every drug deductible is $685 or $700. In 2026 the county had deductibles from $200 to $615. For 2027 the lowest is $685 and six plans charge the full $700 federal maximum.
- 3 plans discontinued, none new. Star Ratings are not in the file yet; CMS publishes 2027 ratings in October. Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7.
St. George is Utah's biggest retiree market and its most Advantage-heavy one. Washington County had 48,139 people on Medicare in June 2026, and 25,036 of them, about 52%, were in a Medicare Advantage plan, per the CMS monthly enrollment file; another 23,103 were on Original Medicare, most with a stand-alone drug plan and a Medigap policy. All of them get to choose again this fall, and the ones in the three discontinued plans have to. CMS posted the CY2027 landscape file at the end of September and revised it September 30; under 42 CFR § 422.2263(a) plans "may begin marketing prospective plan year offerings on October 1." So the numbers below are the real ones, read from the file and matched plan number by plan number against the 2026 file. Two cautions: the file carries no 2027 Star Rating for any plan, so any 2027 rating you see before CMS releases them is last year's; and Medicare On Main does not offer every plan available in your area. Nothing here ranks one plan over another.
When we wrote about Washington County's 2026 plans in August, the story was how flat the shelf was: twelve plans, five carriers, caps bunched between $5,000 and $6,750. The 2027 story is different. It is the same shelf with a quarter of it removed and almost every remaining price tag moved up.
The 2027 St. George shelf: all 9 plans, with their 2026 numbers
Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage ("MA-PD" in the file), sorted by carrier. Premium is the consolidated Part C plus Part D monthly premium, on top of your Part B premium. MOOP is the in-network maximum out-of-pocket for the year. The drug deductible is the plan's annual Part D deductible; the federal cap for 2027 is $700, and the yearly out-of-pocket cap on covered drugs is $2,400 per Medicare.gov. Each 2027 figure sits next to the same plan's 2026 figure so you can see what moved.
| Carrier | Plan (contract-plan ID) | Type | Premium 2026 → 2027 | In-network MOOP 2026 → 2027 | Drug deductible 2026 → 2027 |

| UnitedHealthcare | AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC UT-0001 (PPO) (H2001-017) | PPO | $39 → $49 | $5,500 → $6,700 | $520 → $685 |
Source: CMS CY2027 landscape file and CY2026 landscape file, Utah, Washington County, Contract Category Type MA-PD, read October 2, 2026. Plan names are as CMS lists them. A $0 premium is not the same as no cost; you still pay the Part B premium, copays and coinsurance up to the MOOP.
Read the arrows, not the first column. Humana Value Choice is the only plan whose cap did not move. The Select Health HMO kept its $0 premium but raised its cap by $1,050 and its drug deductible from $300 to the full $700, which for someone on one brand-name drug is a $400 swing before the plan pays anything. The AARP HMO-POS, the only HMO-POS in the county, raised its cap by $1,500. The two HumanaChoice PPOs, already the most expensive plans here, went up $10 and $23 a month. And every one of the nine now has a drug deductible within $15 of the legal maximum; a year ago the county's deductibles ran from $200 to $615.
The 3 plans that are discontinued for 2027
Three 2026 Washington County plans are not on the 2027 list. Two are non-renewals, absent from the entire 2027 file in every county in the country. One is a service-area reduction: the plan continues elsewhere in Utah but no longer includes Washington County. Either way, if you were enrolled, your plan was required to mail you a notice at least 90 days before December 31, and our statewide post explains how to confirm which kind of letter you got.
| Carrier | 2026 plan | 2026 premium / MOOP | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| Humana | Humana Value Choice H5216-456 (PPO) (H5216-456) | $27 / $6,750 | Not offered anywhere for 2027 (non-renewal) |
| Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah | Regence MedAdvantage + Rx Classic (PPO) (H4605-002) | $46 / $6,200 | Left Washington County; still offered in other Utah counties (service-area reduction) |
| Select Health | Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO) (H1994-022) | $0 / $6,325 | Not offered anywhere for 2027 (non-renewal) |

Two of the three have a near-namesake that continues. Humana Value Choice H5216-456 is gone, but Humana Value Choice H5216-428, a different plan under the same name, continues at $0 with a $6,750 cap. Select Health Medicare + Kroger is gone, and Select Health Medicare Essential continues. A same-name plan is not automatically the same plan: the network, the drug list and the extras can differ, and whether your enrollment moves on its own or you have to act is spelled out in your letter. Regence's exit is the one that changes the carrier list. Its PPO was the only non-Humana, non-UnitedHealthcare PPO in the county; for 2027 the PPO choices are Humana's four and UnitedHealthcare's two. Nothing here is a criticism of Regence, which still sells Medicare Advantage in other Utah counties, and we have written about its 2026 footprint without taking sides.

Book a 2027 plan review →Plans without drug coverage, and Special Needs Plans
The MA-PD table is not the whole file. Washington County also has 4 Medicare Advantage plans with no Part D coverage for 2027, down from 5: three Humana USAA Honor Giveback PPOs with in-network caps of $5,100 to $9,150, and the AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx HMO-POS at $7,150. Regence Valiance, the fifth 2026 plan in this group, is gone. These exist mainly for people who get prescriptions through the VA and do not want to pay for a second drug benefit; St. George's veteran population is large enough that this is a real category here.
There are 11 Special Needs Plans in the county for 2027, down from 12: nine Dual Special Needs Plans for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, from Aetna, Humana, Molina, Select Health and UnitedHealthcare; one chronic-condition plan from UnitedHealthcare; and one institutional plan from American Health Advantage of Utah. Molina's second D-SNP, Complete Care Select, is not offered for 2027.
Cedar City and Kanab
Southwest Utah is not one market. Each county has its own list, and 2027 moved them in opposite directions.
| County | 2026 plans | 2027 plans | $0 premium | 2027 carriers | 2027 MOOP range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Washington (St. George, Hurricane, Ivins, Santa Clara) | 12 | 9 | 5 | Aetna Medicare, Humana, Select Health, UnitedHealthcare | $5,750–$7,150 |
| Iron (Cedar City) | 14 | 8 | 4 | Humana, Select Health, UnitedHealthcare | $5,750–$7,150 |
| Kane (Kanab) | 4 | 7 | 4 | Humana, UnitedHealthcare | $4,900–$7,000 |

- Iron County lost the most: 14 plans to 8. Aetna's three Iron County plans and Regence's PPO are gone from the county, along with the same two non-renewed Humana and Select Health plans that left Washington. What remains is exactly the Washington County list minus the Aetna HMO, from three carriers.
- Kane County went the other way, from 4 plans to 7, as Humana and UnitedHealthcare added plans in the state's rural counties for 2027. Kanab now has more Advantage choices than it has had in years, though still from only two carriers.
If you are going back to Original Medicare
A discontinued plan is one of the few events that lets a Utahn buy a Medigap policy without health questions outside the first six months on Part B, and Utah's birthday rule, which does not help someone leaving Advantage, does not change that. The guaranteed-issue window is 63 days after the coverage ends and it covers specific plan letters, so it is worth understanding before December rather than after. That door only works with a stand-alone Part D plan beside it, and Utah has eight of those for 2027, from $5.30 to $238.00 a month, every one with the $2,400 cap; the full 2027 Utah Part D list and how Medigap pricing works in St. George are the two posts to read together.
What the list does not tell you
Three things decide most of these choices, and none of them are in the landscape file.
- Whether your doctors are in the 2027 network. St. George Regional Hospital, the Intermountain clinics, Revere Health and your specialists each have to be checked against each plan you are considering, for 2027 specifically. How Utah Advantage networks work, and why last year's directory is not evidence.
- Whether your prescriptions are covered, and at what tier. The file gives the deductible, and for 2027 that number is nearly identical across the shelf. It does not give the formulary, the tiers, or which drugs need prior authorization, and that is now where the real dollar difference between two $0 plans lives.
- The Star Rating. Blank in this release. CMS publishes 2027 ratings in October, and a contract that moves up or down a half star is worth noticing. We will update this post when they land.
Washington County's health profile is the reminder of why the cap and the formulary outweigh the extras. Per CDC PLACES, 29.2% of adults here live with high blood pressure, 34.1% with obesity and 8.8% with diabetes, conditions that mean regular prescriptions and regular specialist visits, year after year, and that are exactly what a $700 drug deductible and a $7,150 cap are measured against.
The calendar from here
- Now: plans can market 2027 offerings, and Medicare.gov's Plan Finder shows them. Your Annual Notice of Change should already be in hand; how to read it.
- October 15 to December 7: enrollment. A plan you join in this window starts January 1, per Medicare.gov.
- December 8 through the last day of February: the Special Enrollment Period for people whose plan was discontinued. A choice made by December 31 still begins January 1.
- January 1 to March 31: the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, one change for anyone already in an Advantage plan.
- January 1: if you were in a discontinued plan and did nothing, you are on Original Medicare with no drug plan and no Medigap policy.
What I would do
If your plan is on the second table, start with the Original Medicare and Medigap door, because the guaranteed-issue window is the thing you cannot get back, and compare the 9 plans above against it rather than only against each other. If your plan is on the first table, read the arrows: a plan whose cap went up $1,000 or more is a different plan in a bad year even if the premium is still $0, and your Annual Notice of Change will have the same numbers. Then check the doctors and the drugs before the extras, and make the decision by December 7 so it starts January 1. We do this for St. George households every October, by phone and video from our Moab office.
How we know all this: the Medicare On Main Data Desk frames every article with public data — here, the CMS CY2027 and CY2026 Medicare Advantage and Part D landscape files, read directly and filtered to Utah's Washington, Iron and Kane counties on October 2, 2026; 42 CFR § 422.2263 as published on Cornell LII; Medicare.gov's enrollment-period and Part D cost pages; the CMS Medicare Monthly Enrollment file for Washington County; and CDC PLACES 2023 for Washington County health prevalence. 2027 Star Ratings are not yet published and none are stated. Medicare On Main is a licensed independent insurance agency. We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to the plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options. Not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program. Frequently asked questions
How many Medicare Advantage plans are in St. George, Utah for 2027?
9 Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage in Washington County, from 4 carriers, according to the CMS 2027 landscape file published at the end of September. That is down from 12 in 2026. 5 of the 9 have a $0 monthly premium, the highest premium is $110, and the in-network out-of-pocket maximums run from $5,750 to $7,150. There are also 4 plans without drug coverage, aimed mainly at veterans with VA prescriptions, and 11 Special Needs Plans.
Which insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage in Washington County, Utah?
For 2027: Aetna Medicare, Humana, Select Health and UnitedHealthcare. Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, which sold two plans here in 2026, does not list Washington County in 2027, though it still offers plans in other Utah counties. Humana has the most plans (four), UnitedHealthcare three, Aetna and Select Health one each. Medicare On Main does not offer every plan available in your area.
Which Medicare Advantage plans are discontinued in St. George for 2027?
Three 2026 plans are not on the 2027 Washington County list: Humana Value Choice H5216-456 (PPO) and Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO), which do not appear anywhere in the 2027 file, and Regence MedAdvantage + Rx Classic (PPO), which left this county but continues elsewhere in Utah. If you were in one of them, your plan mailed a notice by October 2, and your coverage under it ends December 31, 2026. No plan is new to the county for 2027.
What is the out-of-pocket maximum for Medicare Advantage plans in St. George?
For 2027 it runs from $5,750 (Humana Essentials Plus Giveback PPO) to $7,150 (AARP Medicare Advantage UT-0002 PPO) for in-network care. Every continuing plan except Humana Value Choice raised its cap for 2027; the Select Health HMO went from $5,700 to $6,750 and the AARP HMO-POS from $5,200 to $6,700. In 2026 the county's range was $5,000 to $6,750. PPO plans also carry a higher combined in- and out-of-network limit that is not in the CMS file.
Does Select Health Medicare cover St. George in 2027?
Yes, with one plan instead of two: Select Health Medicare Essential (HMO) at $0, with a $6,750 cap and a $700 drug deductible, up from $300 in 2026. Select Health Medicare + Kroger (HMO) is not offered anywhere for 2027. Whether a specific St. George doctor or Intermountain clinic is in the 2027 network is a directory question, not a plan-list question, and it has to be checked for 2027 specifically.
When can I change my Medicare Advantage plan in Utah for 2027?
October 15 to December 7, for a January 1 start. Plans may market 2027 offerings from October 1, and Medicare.gov's Plan Finder shows them from the same date. If your plan was discontinued you also get a Special Enrollment Period from December 8 through the end of February, and anyone already in an Advantage plan can make one change from January 1 to March 31. 2027 Star Ratings are not in the initial file; CMS publishes them in October.
