Is My Medicare Advantage Plan Ending in 2027? County-by-County Lists for 18 States

The letters went out on or about October 2. We went to the source behind them, the CMS plan files for 2026 and 2027, and compared them plan number by plan number for every county in the 18 states we are licensed in. The result is a page for each county with a plan ending, 1,319 in all. Here is where they are, how to read them, and what the fall looks like if your plan is on one.

The bottom line

  • 1,319 of 1,402 counties in our 18 states lose at least one general Medicare Advantage plan for 2027, and 1,832,553 members were on ending plans in September 2026 where CMS reports a count.
  • Every county has its own page under Medicare Advantage plans ending in 2027: the plans gone (name, ID, 2026 premium, cap, stars, members here), the plans new, what remains, the letter, the three doors and the calendar.
  • Discontinued is not the same as left the county. We mark both. A plan re-issued under a new ID shows as gone and new.
  • The dates are the same everywhere: choose October 15 – December 7; Medigap guaranteed-issue window November 1 – March 4; backstop Special Enrollment Period December 8 – February 28.

Member counts are each plan's total September 2026 enrollment in the county, including employer-group members. Carrier names are factual reporting, not criticism.

How to read your county's page

  1. Find your plan by ID. The H-number and plan number on your card (for example H5216-456) is the only reliable match; carriers reuse names.
  2. Check the last column. Discontinued means no row anywhere in the 2027 file. Left this county means the plan continues elsewhere. Either way, members here get a letter (42 CFR § 422.506).
  3. Look at what remains and what is new. The shelf counts, the companies, how many $0 plans, and the new plan IDs, with premium and in-network cap.
  4. Then decide the door, not the plan: another Advantage plan (Joining a plan, October 15 – December 7), or Original Medicare with Medigap, which the exit lets you buy with no health questions from November 1 to March 4 (Medicare.gov), or Original Medicare with a drug plan alone.

How we know all this: the Medicare On Main Data Desk built the county pages from the CMS CY2026 and CY2027 landscape files compared by Contract Plan ID, CMS's September 2026 county-level enrollment report, and the federal rules and Medicare.gov pages on non-renewal notices, enrollment periods and Medigap guaranteed-issue rights. Mentioning a carrier is factual reporting, not endorsement or criticism. This is education, not advice; confirm plans, costs and eligibility with a licensed agent or Medicare.gov. We take no payment from any carrier to feature a plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Medicare Advantage plan ending in 2027?

If it is, your plan mailed you a non-renewal notice on or about October 2, 2026, separate from the Annual Notice of Change. You can also check the public record: our county pages list every general Medicare Advantage plan sold in your county in 2026 that has no row in the CMS 2027 plan file, by plan name and plan ID, for all 18 states we are licensed in.

How many Medicare Advantage plans are ending in 2027?

In the 18 states we cover, 411 state-level plan discontinuations show up when the 2026 and 2027 CMS files are compared by plan ID (a plan sold in two states counts twice), and 1319 of 1,402 counties lose at least one general plan. Nationally, Humana has said it is cutting about 2,400 plans and UnitedHealthcare about 690.

How many people are affected?

Summing CMS's September 2026 county enrollment for every ending plan in every county across the 18 states gives 1,832,553 members, not counting counties where CMS suppresses a plan's count because it is under 11, and including employer-group members who may be moved by their former employer.

What do I do if my plan is on the list?

Keep the letter. Choose 2027 coverage between October 15 and December 7: another Medicare Advantage plan, or Original Medicare with a stand-alone drug plan and, if you want it, a Medigap policy. A plan exit gives you a guaranteed-issue right to Medigap Plan A, B, D, G, K or L with no health questions from 60 days before to 63 days after the plan ends, November 1, 2026 through March 4, 2027.

Will I be moved to a new plan automatically?

Only if the carrier moves you into a sister plan under the same contract, and the letter says so. If a plan is discontinued and you do nothing, you are in Original Medicare on January 1, 2027 with no drug coverage and no annual out-of-pocket cap.

Turning 65 in the next 6 months? 🎂

Your situation is different from someone whose plan is ending

A plan-ending member picks a replacement. Someone new to Medicare gets a one-time window: your Initial Enrollment Period is 7 months (the 3 months before your 65th-birthday month, that month, and the 3 months after), and Medigap open enrollment is the 6 months after your Part B starts — any Medicare Supplement, no health questions. Miss it and the same policy can be denied or cost more for life.

A 15-minute call maps your exact dates, Part B timing if you are still working, and whether Medigap or Medicare Advantage fits first — in person in Moab, Monticello or Grand Junction, or by phone wherever you live. No cost, no obligation. We do not offer every plan available in your area.
