What Medicare Plans Are Available in Logan, Utah in 2026?
Cache Valley gets a thinner menu than the Wasatch Front — and the thinner the menu, the more the choice comes down to your own doctors.
The bottom line
- Cache County has 13 Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage for 2026, from 5 carriers — 8 of them at a $0 monthly plan premium.
- That's above the median Utah county (8 plans) but well under Salt Lake's 24 and Weber's 19. Cache Valley sits at the northern end of the arc, and the menu thins as you go north.
- Advantage isn't the whole list. Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan — and optionally a Medicare Supplement — has no county menu and no network at all.
- The number nobody markets is the out-of-pocket maximum: $4,900 to $8,900 in-network across Cache County's plans.
- A $0 plan premium is not free coverage. You still pay $202.90 a month for Part B, plus every copay.
Logan is a real Medicare market that behaves like a small one. Fifty-some thousand people, a university, a hospital system or two, and a valley that empties into farmland in every direction. When someone in Providence or Hyde Park or Smithfield asks me what's available, they're usually expecting either "everything" or "nothing," and the honest answer is neither. Here's the actual menu, where the numbers come from, and the two questions that narrow it faster than any plan count can.
The four things you can actually buy
"What plans are available" quietly assumes the answer is a Medicare Advantage plan. It isn't — that's one of four structures, and only one of them has a county menu:
| Option | How many | Where you can go | What it costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medicare Advantage with drug coverage (MA-PD) | 13 in Cache County | County service area, plan network, prior authorization common | 8 at $0 plan premium; $4,900–$8,900 yearly in-network maximum |
| Original Medicare + a stand-alone Part D plan | No county menu | Any provider in the U.S. who accepts Medicare | $283 Part B deductible, then 20% with no annual cap; drug spending capped at $2,100 |
| Original Medicare + Part D + a Medicare Supplement | No county menu | Any provider in the U.S. who accepts Medicare; sold by letter, A through N | A real monthly premium on top of Part B, in exchange for the supplement absorbing most cost sharing |
| Special Needs Plans (SNPs) | Must qualify | Plan network, plus eligibility rules — not counted in the numbers above | Varies; only relevant if you meet the condition or eligibility criteria |

Why our count and the internet's count disagree
Search "Medicare plans Logan Utah" and you'll get numbers ranging from the low teens to the high twenties. They aren't lying and neither are we — we're counting different things. This page counts MA-PD only: Medicare Advantage plans that include Part D drug coverage, the category most people actually shop. Broader counts fold in Advantage plans without drug coverage, Special Needs Plans you have to qualify for, and sometimes stand-alone Part D plans on top.
So the rule is simple and it's worth applying to every source, including this one: ask what was counted before comparing one number to another. A plan count without a stated denominator can't be compared to anything.
Cache County against the rest of the arc
Same file, same category, so these are genuinely comparable — Utah's population corridor from Salt Lake north to the Idaho line:

Cache lands 9th of the 28 Utah counties in the CMS file. Statewide there are 280 MA-PD offerings across those counties, 178 of them at a $0 plan premium — about 64%. Cache runs 62%.
What the smaller number does not mean is worse coverage. Plan counts measure how many companies filed a bid in a county, not how good any of them is for you. If two of the 13 contract with your cardiologist and the rest don't, your real menu was always two.

The organizations offering MA-PD plans in Cache County for 2026: Aetna Medicare, Humana, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Select Health, UnitedHealthcare. Devoted Health and HealthSpring sell down in Salt Lake County but not up here — the concrete shape of "fewer options in the north." Those names are listed because a company's presence in a county is a verifiable fact from a federal file, not because we're recommending any of them.
The highest Overall Star Rating available in Cache County is 4.5, which is also the highest available in every other Utah county — which is exactly why star ratings rarely separate two finalists. Use them to break a tie, not to make the decision.
The hospital question, which is the real question
Cache Valley care is concentrated: Intermountain Health's Logan Regional Hospital in Logan and Cache Valley Hospital in North Logan, plus the clinics around them, and a steady stream of referrals down to Ogden and Salt Lake for anything specialized. A Medicare Advantage plan is only as good as its contract with whichever of those you actually use.
Medicare.gov states it plainly: plans can change the providers in their network at any time during the year. Not at renewal — during the year. So there is no list, anywhere, that settles this permanently. What works is the method: search the plan's own directory by physician name for the plan year you're buying, confirm with both the plan and the clinic's billing office, and write down the reference number and the date. Then redo it every October. Our piece on the Utah hospital network test walks through that in detail, and the University of Utah Health question covers the referral end of it, which matters here because so much specialty care travels south.
The option with no county menu at all
If you keep Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan, you can see any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. No network, no service area, no county count. For a Cache Valley household whose oncologist is in Salt Lake, whose kids are in St. George, or who spends part of the winter out of state, that portability is the actual product being sold.
The trade is honest in both directions. Original Medicare has a $283 annual Part B deductible and then 20% coinsurance with no annual out-of-pocket maximum, which is what a Medicare Supplement exists to absorb — for a real monthly premium on top of the $202.90 Part B premium. Your drug spending is separately capped: $2,100 out of pocket in 2026, with no plan allowed to charge a Part D deductible above $615.
Timing is the constraint, not geography. Your one-time 6-month Medigap open enrollment period starts when you're 65 and enrolled in Part B, and that's generally the one stretch when a company must sell you a policy without health questions. Utah adds a narrow annual window under state law afterward — our guide to Utah's Medigap birthday rule lays out exactly what it does and doesn't let you do. The Utah Insurance Department also publishes a premium comparison for the companies selling supplements here, which is worth reading before anyone quotes you anything.
What I'd do if I lived in Logan
- Write down your doctors and prescriptions first. By name and dose, before you open any website. Everything downstream depends on those two lists.
- Decide the structure question before the plan question. Network-and-cap (Advantage) or no-network-and-a-premium (Medigap) is the fork; the 13 plans only matter on one side of it.
- Price your actual drugs on medicare.gov/plan-compare, against real formularies and preferred pharmacies — not a summary sheet. In a valley with a handful of pharmacies, preferred-pharmacy status is worth real money.
- Compare out-of-pocket maximums before premiums. $4,900 versus $8,900 is the difference the premium column is hiding.
- Verify the hospital and each specialist separately. Not "does it cover Intermountain" — does it cover your surgeon, at that location, for that plan year.
- Re-run all of it next fall. Annual Enrollment is October 15 to December 7, and a plan that fit in 2026 is a brand-new contract in 2027.
How we know all this: the Medicare On Main Data Desk frames every article with public data — here, the CMS CY2026 Medicare Advantage / Part D landscape file, accessed July 2026, for every county figure on this page: Cache County's 13 MA-PD offerings, 8 at $0 plan premium, 5 organizations, 4.5 highest available Overall Star Rating and $4,900–$8,900 in-network out-of-pocket maximum range, plus the 280 statewide offerings across 28 counties (178 at $0) and the county comparisons. We count category MA-PD only and say so, because a plan count without a stated denominator can't be compared to anything. Medicare.gov supplies the county-based service-area rule, the network and out-of-pocket-maximum rules, the mid-year network-change rule, the Annual Enrollment dates and the 6-month Medigap open enrollment rule; CMS's 2026 Parts A & B fact sheet, published November 14, 2025, supplies the $202.90 standard Part B premium and $283 deductible; CMS's final CY2026 Part D redesign instructions and Medicare.gov supply the $2,100 out-of-pocket cap and $615 maximum plan deductible. Hospitals are named as facilities that serve this market, not as endorsements, and no network status is asserted for any plan. Carriers are named because their presence in a county is a verifiable fact, not because we recommend any of them. This is education, not advice; confirm your plan, costs, and eligibility with a licensed agent or Medicare.gov. We take no payment from any carrier to feature a plan.
Frequently asked questions
What Medicare plans are available in Logan, Utah?
All four kinds are available in Logan, which sits in Cache County. For 2026 the CMS landscape file lists 13 Medicare Advantage plans that include Part D drug coverage (MA-PD) in Cache County, from 5 carriers, 8 of them at a $0 monthly plan premium. Separately, you can stay with Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan, and optionally a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy — those last two have no county menu at all. If you've seen a much larger number on an aggregator site, that count folds in Advantage plans without drug coverage, Special Needs Plans that require you to qualify, and sometimes stand-alone drug plans too.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are in Cache County, Utah?
13 for 2026, counting only Advantage plans that include Part D drug coverage. That puts Cache 9th of the 28 Utah counties in the CMS file, by plan count — above the median county's 8, but well below Salt Lake County's 24 and Weber County's 19. The number that matters more than the count is the in-network out-of-pocket maximum, which in Cache County runs from $4,900 to $8,900. That spread is what a bad health year actually costs you.
Which insurance companies offer Medicare Advantage in Cache County?
For 2026 the CMS landscape file lists 5 organizations with MA-PD plans in Cache County: Aetna Medicare, Humana, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Select Health, UnitedHealthcare. Devoted Health and HealthSpring sell in Salt Lake County but not up here. We list them because a company's presence in a county is a verifiable fact, not because we're steering you toward any of them — we do not offer every plan available in your area, and the right company is whichever one contracts with the doctors you already see.
Do Medicare Advantage plans cover Logan Regional Hospital?
Some do, and no third-party list can settle it for your plan and your year. Network status is a contract between one insurer and one health system, and Medicare.gov says plainly that plans can change the providers in their network at any time during the year — not just at renewal. Cache Valley is served by more than one system, including Intermountain Health's Logan Regional Hospital and Cache Valley Hospital in North Logan, so a plan can include one and exclude the other. Verify by searching the plan's own provider directory by physician name for the plan year you're buying, then confirm with both the plan and the clinic's billing office and write down the reference number.
Is a $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan really free in Utah?
No, and this is worth being blunt about. 8 of Cache County's 13 MA-PD plans show a $0 monthly plan premium for 2026 — about 62%, against 64% statewide. What the $0 removes is one line item, not the cost. You still pay the Part B premium, $202.90 a month for most people in 2026, and you still pay the plan's copays, coinsurance and deductibles when you use care, up to that plan's yearly out-of-pocket maximum.
Can I get a Medicare Supplement plan in Logan, Utah?
Yes — and unlike Advantage, Medigap has no county service area and no network. Any provider in the country who accepts Medicare will take it, which matters if your specialist is in Salt Lake or Ogden, or if you winter somewhere warm. The catch is timing rather than geography: the one stretch when a company generally must sell you a policy without health questions is your one-time 6-month Medigap open enrollment period, which starts when you're 65 and enrolled in Part B. Utah adds a narrow annual window on top of that under state law, but it has real limits. The Utah Insurance Department publishes a premium comparison for the companies selling Medigap here.
